Things to do

Kayaks and canoe rides

Kayaks wait at the water's edge, and the family can arrange a country-canoe ride through Munroe's narrow canals at sunrise or sunset.

Evenings on the water

Sit outside your room or by the lake and watch the light go gold over the backwaters.

Village life

Coir making, prawn farms and toddy tappers: everyday island life, a short walk, cycle or paddle away. Bicycles can be hired.

Home food

A vegetarian breakfast is served, and the family can arrange Kerala meals when you ask.

Munroe Island

Munroe Island (Mundrothuruthu) is a cluster of small islands where Ashtamudi Lake meets the Kallada River, about 25 km from Kollam town. It is named after Colonel John Munro, the British Resident of Travancore.

Life here moves with the water, and the best way to see it is slowly, by canoe.
